SYNTAX            : BACKSPACE

FUNCTION          : Erases the character to the left of the cursor in the
                    input area. When TV is in insert mode, lines may
                    become joined. In overstrike mode, attempts to
                    BACKSPACE over the beginning of a line will fail.
